      Voicing<\/h3>\n

      Every piano has its own unique sound. \u00a0One might be described as \u201cglassy,\u201d another as \u201cwarm.\u201d \u00a0One might have a \u201cfull singing\u201d tone, and yet another sounds \u201ctinny\u201d or \u201cthin.\u201d \u00a0Although the original design establishes the basic character of your piano\u2019s tone, your technician can modify it to better suit your taste or restore its original tone if it has deteriorated with age through a highly technical process called voicing.<\/p>\n

      How often voicing is needed depends upon the piano\u2019s usage and audience. Pianos in concert halls and recording studios often receive minor refinement of the voicing before each performance. \u00a0But these are exceptional circumstances.\u00a0 A home piano may or may not need some initial voicing to customize it to the owner\u2019s taste, then once every one to five years to maintain its tone.\u00a0 But many people never feel a need to have their pianos voiced and enjoy them every bit as much.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

        ROOM \u00a0ACOUSTICS \u2014 Hard shiny surfaces such as windows and bare floors reflect high frequencies, making a piano sound bright and loud. \u00a0High ceilings or large adjoining rooms add resonance. \u00a0Rugs and upholstered furniture soften tone and add warmth.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        THE \u00a0LID \u2014 Both grands and verticals sound louder and brighter if the lid is opened.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
